IMAM IC3 OSCE TUTORIAL 2013

Date :           18^th & 25^th May, 1^st June 2013

Venue :         Malaysian Hall, Dublin, Ireland

  In the name of Allah, the most beneficent the most merciful. Alhamdulillah, on the 18^th, 25^th of May and 1^st of June, Islamic Medical Association of Malaysia (IMAM) in collaboration with IKRAM Ireland and Education Malaysia (EM) has successfully organized the very first Obstructive Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) tutorial designed for third year students of Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).

The objectives of the OSCE tutorial were as follows;

1)      To gain confidence in performing a history taking skills.

2)      To be able to perform good physical examination skills with appropriate techniques.

3)      To equip medical students with common exam cases and questions in OSCE.

4)      To strengthen networking between medical students and doctors.

The collaborative effort involving students, seniors (newly graduated doctors) and current working doctors received positive feedbacks through out the three sessions held in Malaysian Hall, Dublin.

In conclusion, we would like to thank to all sponsors; EM, Majlis Amanah Rakyat Malaysia (MARA), personal donation and students for their financial supports. Also to doctors and seniors for their time and wisdom and lastly to everyone who made this tutorial a reality. We hope this pioneer work will be carried on next year.

Time     : 10.30 am – 15.00 pm

Systems: Cardiovascular, Thyroid, Peripheral Vascular Disease & Diabetic Foot

Tutors: Muhammad Yunus Tauhid Ahmad (PIC), Naem Omar, Faiz Fauzi, Hafizah Nasir, Izyan Munirah, Khadijah Zulkarnain, Fadhilah Ahmad, Najihah Zainal, Asma Mardiana.

The first session held on the 18^th of May focuses on cardiovascular, thyroid, peripheral vascular disease and diabetic foot system. A total of 19 students from RCSI and 9 final med RCSI seniors attended on the day. Students were divided into 4 groups based on 4 different stations and rotated each stations for an hour and half.

25^th May 2013

Time: 9.30 am – 16.00 pm

Systems: Surgical (stoma bag) & Gastrointestinal (GI), Rheumatology, Hernia

Tutors: Muhammad Hafeez Ahmad Kamal Hayati (PIC), Faiz Fauzi, Jecknorris Moidin, Mu’adz Zubir, Hafizah Nasir, Lina Zulkifli, Fadzlina Shukri,  Syarafina Abd Aziz.

A total of 18 students and 8 seniors from RCSI attended on the second session held on the 25^th of May. Systems covered were on Surgical (Stoma bag) and GI Rheumatology and Hernia. A mock GI history was done at the end of the day on common exam cases.

1^st June 2013

Time: 9.30 am – 17.00 pm

Systems: Orthopaedics (Hip & Knee), Respiratory, Neurovascular

Tutors: Dr Shahril Shaarani, Dr Tidi Maharani Hassan, Dr Syafiq Ismail, Dr Najmi, Dr Fatimah

The last session held on the 1^st of June covered on Orthopaedics, Respiratory and Neurovascular system. Unlike the two previous sessions that we had, tutorial on the day was given by current Malaysian working doctors in Ireland. We are also delighted to have few colleagues from University College Dublin (UCD) joining us for the first time. We started off the tutorial with an overview lecture on orthopaedics (Hip & Knee examination) by Dr Shahril then students were divided into groups for simulated session on each system. A token of appreciation for all doctors were distributed at the end of the last period. A short presentation delivered by 4^th med seniors was scheduled in the last minute before everyone dispersed for the day.

Recap: IMAM Med School Mayhem

Assalamualaikum, 

   Alhamdulillah, IMAM Med School Mayhem has officially ended with the final event of the series, IMAM 5th Clinical Case Competition being held yesterday. Despite unable to conduct a workshop session as planned for this year, we were still able to organized two out of 3 events in total. Here we look back at both events occurring in March.

 1) IMAM Medical Quiz

 Date    : 1st March 2013

 Venue  : Cheyne Lect Theatre, RCSI 

This is truly a FUNtastic event, filled with laughter and knowledge packed quiz. Questions ranging from general knowledge to basic sciences and medically related cases gave participants a challenge to think and thus giving an educated answer. Four teams participated this year and each team consist of 1st year to 3rd year medical students. We introduced a new ruling this year called 'lifelines' and the options were 1) To use Google or 2) Phone a friend. Results ended up with a tie in both first place won by two female teams.

2) IMAM 5th Clinical Case Competition (CCC)

Date     : 31st March 2013

Venue  : Malaysian Hall, Dublin 6 Ireland

This highly renowned event is in its’ 5th consecutive year since the introduction in 2009. Attraction for this years’ CCC was the judges’ prize category for best presenter which was an iPad mini and a personal engraved pocket watch (contributed by one of the judges - Mr Kama Muhammad) to be given away. Also for the first time in 2013, we opened registration to UK clinical year students but unfortunately none participated. Nonetheless, 10 contestants presented their cases with good standards and we believed we were able to achieve the objectives of this event. Results in the end didn't matter as all 10 contestants tried their very best. Lastly, we would like to thank Education Malaysia (EM) for being our sponsor and to all five judges for allocating their time and donations for this event. We hope to continue this event and truly appreciate feed backs from judges and audiences for improvement in the future.

Doctors In You (DIY): The Oath

Assalamualaikum to all.

IMAM Ireland SC will host our first event for the term 2012/2013. With collaboration with ISMA Ireland, the event, Doctors In You (DIY): The Oath, will be held on the 9th of December 2012 (Sunday) at Houston Lecture Theatre, RCSI.

The talk will be given by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azizi Ayob, Consultant Pharmacologist and Medical Director (in Private company) and his wife Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rafidah Hanim Mokhtar, Associate Professor at Fakulti of Perubatan dan Sains Kesihatan, University Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM).

Alhamdulillah we have recently held the Annual Grand Meeting of IMAM Eire Student Chapter for the session 2011/2012 on 2^nd October 2012. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Congratulation to the committee members of Tanzim IMAM Eire SC 2011/2012 who has taken the challenge and going through thick and thin of leading IMAM Eire SC, working together as a team. Annual General Meeting of IMAM UK Eire Student Chapter 11/12

Assalamualaikum to all the respective members of IMAM UK Eire Student Chapter. All praises for Him (Allah, Exalted He is) for the upcoming Annual General Meeting of IMAM UK Eire Student Chapter. The current 2011/2012 committee members will end their terms this Friday and will be replaced by a new line of potential nominees that are interested to run for any of these positions:

1. President
2. Vice President
3. Secretary I and II

4. Treasurer
5. 5 Excos

Terms and conditions for nominations are as followed:

1. Nomination is open to all students that is registered as an IMAM member and has fully paid the registration fee. Winning candidates will be responsible as committee members until October 2013.

2. Candidates should practice Islam as a way of life together with Islamic morals.

3. Candidates should hold features such as within the articles of the Constitution of Official UK IMAM Eire.

4. Candidates are free to run for any post and allowed to run for more than 1 positions.

5. No restriction for age limit on any candidate to contest for any position.

6. Nomination of a candidate requires support from at least another person. If not, the nomination is considered invalid and will be automatically cancelled.

7. Candidates must attend the election and representatives are not allowed.

8. The candidate must obtain a majority vote of the council members present and voting during the Annual General Meeting.

9. When the candidate has elected to hold a position, the candidate is not allowed to change positions other than what has been contested.

10. Conversion of positions can only be done in one session of the Special General Meeting that may be called by the President at any time or when necessary.

Nomination form must be completed and sent to the Chief Election Commission at the latest on Thursday November 1st, 2012 at 11:59 pm. The form can be found here  Click Here

Rules & regulations of Clinical Case Competition 2012

1. Participant can choose to present any clinical cases from any disciplines of medical field (i.e. including any specialty)
   
   
2. The work must be an original work/presentation (i.e. the case must never before been published, etc).
   
   
3. Confidentiality of the patients must be protected.
   
   
4. Each participant will need to submit an abstract of 100 words of your case together with the title of presentation to events.imameiresc@yahoo.ie by 13th April 2012 (latest 11.50pm). A copy of the power point presentation must also be sent to the same email by 14th of April 2012.

5. The presentation must be within 13 minutes, and additional of 5 minutes Q&A session with the panel of judges.
   
   
6. The presentation must include the history of the case, physical examinations, differential diagnosis, investigations, managements and a topic of interest. Marks will also be given based on participants’ knowledge regarding the cases.The level of difficulty of the case will be one area of consideration as well.

7. A 5 euro registration fee can be paid during registration on the 15th of April 2012.
